Recently at the thrift store I made a few wonderful scores. I absolutely love this bamboo accordion style wine rack. It thought it was faux bamboo but it looks like the real thing. The color is warm and golden so I don’t want to paint it.  It is probably something I don’t really need but I could possibly use it for display or maybe I’ll get into wine. It would be a stunner if I had a long enough counter or a bar area in my house.
It was marked $6.95 and with the 50% off sale it was only $3.50. Love it. It makes me wish I had a bar stand or a bar cart. I always thought there was something classy about a bar cart with a gleaming silver ice bucket and crystal bottles of liquor. Reminds me of an old David Niven or Cary Grant movie from the 1950s. My other thought was to use it in a gift basket with a bottle or two of wine or a set of wine glasses. I would hate to see it dumped at the thrift store again because someone couldn’t appreciate how special it is.

I also found this gorgeous white porcelain vase with white iridescent ginkgo leaves.  This too was on clearance for $3.50. I am not sure how it was made but the detail is fabulous. When I find something special I typically see if I can find it on line just to get an idea of it's value but I couldn't find it. I’ve been collecting white vases and pitchers and this will be a great addition.
Last I found this little gizmo. It's a wooden holder that I suppose can be used for candles, a small vase with flowers or even colored bulbs. It would also make a great gift holder with a bottle of wine. I love giving gifts in packages that can be reused for something else.
That's all I have for this week. I'll be headed there again this weekend. I never know what treasures are waiting for me.

More Gifts for the Ladies

So you went shopping for your mom, sister, wife or friend and still can't decide. I've been shopping too and I like am having a hard time. I seldom give perfume because it can what you want to smell like is so personal. This year I may make an exception. I new fragrance is always nice or a luxurious body lotion. A makeup kit will be a lot of fun for a teenage girl or young woman. So much to choose from and so little time. Hare are a few items I am considering. Are the packages lovely.

For women there are many, many, many options to choose from for holiday gifts. If it sparkles, looks pretty or smells good, for the most part you will have made a good choice. For the guys it’s always a little bit harder. Often what they want is more than we can afford. You can always give a gift card but what’s the fun in that. To give you a few ideas over the holiday season here are a few reasonably priced options your male friend or family member might like.

It's Valentines day once again. Time to tell the one you love or the one you're with how much you appreciate them. I myself have been without a "love" for more many years but if I did have a special someone I would tell him so everyday. As you can see I get a little melancholy on Valentines day. I think that's only natural so I hope you dont mind that I wallowed just a bit. If you can't quite figure out what to get the woman in your life, here are a few ideas that might bring a smile to her face. Of course a dozen roses and a box of pixies are nice but women always like something shiny.

Remember friends, you shouldn't wait until you see pink greeting cards and heart shaped boxes of candy on the store shelves to tell your man or woman how much you love them. Tell her everyday. Tell him everyday. Take it from one who knows, there is no greater gift you can give than to say I love you.
